Morse Mountain (located in Phippsburg Maine) is an incredible hike. This four mile hike follows an access road out to a huge, wide-open beach. Along the way you’ll find wooded areas, wide open marshes, and a few beautiful homes. I’ve done this hike three times now and every time I go I’ve spotted an abundance of wildlife. On my most recent hike I had the opportunity to photograph two species of birds I’ve wanted to find for quite a long time…
Although this is far from a good picture, it was the first time I’ve ever come across a bald eagle with my camera in hand. When I first spotted this juvenile, to say I was overjoyed would be an understatement. I watched it circling around looking for a bite to eat.
On my way back, I spotted another large bird flying over one of the marshes. When I first spotted it in the distance I figured it was a seagull but as it got closer, I realized it was something not nearly as common. Much like the eagle, this Osprey was too far away to get a clear photo but it was still great to finally find one of these magnificent birds.
At this point, I was almost back to the car when I spotted one final bird. Although the blue jay is common, I haven’t been able to get a good photo of one until now. Overall, I was happy with the way this one came out!
Overall, this was an amazing hike. It’s safe to say that Morse Mountain never disappoints. If you’re ever near Phippsburg Maine, I highly recommend checking it out!
